Safety Tips

(Safety Tips revised on 01/06/2023)

Key advice for a positive experience

  • Don’t share your personal details too quickly and never give your address, email address or phone number to someone unless you trust them completely.
  • Never pass on your passwords or confidential information.
  • Be mindful of your children’s privacy and safety. Photos showing minors, even if they are with an adult, will be removed.
  • Never send money, especially by bank transfer or money order, without making sure that the person you are speaking to is who they say they are. Don’t forget that scams can often be very convincing.
  • Keeping your account safe

  • Your account is personal – Protect it
  • Never pass on your passwords or confidential information.
  • Make sure you choose a complex password that is different to the passwords you use on other sites.
  • Do not share your login details.
  • Remember to log off when you use your account on a public or shared computer.
  • Taking the time to get to know each other

  • Don’t rush
  • nargisbai gives you lots of ways to chat (messages, audio or video calls, dates at our events, etc.). Get to know each other before talking outside of nargisbai platforms or meeting up in person.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask questions to help you spot anything suspicious or worrying.
  • When the time is right, suggest or accept a meet-up.
  • Always choose busy public areas for your initial meetings – never a private place, your home or the home of the person you are meeting.
  • Reporting cyber-harassment

  • Is a user making you feel uncomfortable? Let us know
  • If a user contacts you repeatedly and it makes you feel uncomfortable, you can take action.
  • Whether it’s insulting, discriminatory or defamatory remarks, or even compliments, if it’s unwanted and repeated this is called (cyber)harassment.
  • Harassment has NO place in virtual or in real life!
  • If you have been the victim of this behaviour, you can always report the person in question and block them. Our moderation team will then swiftly take the necessary measures.
  • Nothing good comes from cyberharassment, and it definitely doesn’t lead to love. This is why nargisbai actively participates in the prevention of cyberharassment and steps in when a large number of messages is sent to the same person without a reply.
  • Avoiding potential scams

All members’ profiles are reviewed before they are accepted. Bear in mind that a verified profile does not guarantee the integrity of the person and potentially the system could be bypassed, so remain vigilant and follow our safety tips.

Here are a few things to look out for and some situations that should ring alarm bells. Be careful if:

  • You exchange a few messages and the other person quickly asks you to talk outside of the platform
  • If a user contacts you repeatedly and it makes you feel uncomfortable, you can take action.
  • You are talking more and more often but never on live audio or video calls or face to face because the other person claims they can't. They avoid answering some of your questions or remain evasive
  • Scammers make up believable stories to ask for money:
Some people pretend to be “stuck” in a dire situation whether at home or abroad

Or promise to meet you in the real life but request to pay for transportation at the last minute

Or they tell you about a new financial investment opportunity that they've come across
  • Another tactic used by scammers to trick you into providing financial information or downloading malware is to send a link to an app, game, service, or website they say they want you to try out.
  • Never send or receive money! Bank transfers, money orders, foreign currency exchanges, and cryptocurrency are just like sending cash. In most cases, it is almost impossible to cancel the transaction or to get your money back. Scammers may also offer to send money via cheque and ask you to cash a cheque, keep a portion for yourself and send a portion back.
  • Remember that scammers can often be very convincing. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to take advice from those around you and report to us suspicious profiles.
  • Also, do not share any information that would enable someone to access your bank accounts, passwords, or other type of personal information that you would normally keep to yourself. This includes any type of information about yourself that could enable anyone else to assume your identity, such as your full name, address, date of birth, etc.
  • In short, if a user asks you for money or invites you to invest, report it to us immediately.
  • Enjoying your date

    Take some precautions:

  • Don’t hesitate to cut your date short. Is your instinct telling you that something isn’t right or do you feel uncomfortable? End the date straight away.
  • Carefully plan your transport, and choose when you want to leave. Think of a plan B (like a carsharing app, a private hire vehicle or a friend who can come and pick you up if needed).
  • Tell your friends who you are meeting and where.
  • Don’t leave your drinks or personal belongings unattended. On a first date, it is best to know exactly where your drinks are coming from.
  • Set yourself limits and stay aware.
  • Starting a relationship

A strong relationship is built on mutual respect. So, you’re starting a relationship with another one of our singles? Here are some tips:

  • Ask for/give consent: at the start of any relationship, you must have consent, and you and your partner need to check in with each other regularly. Direct verbal communication should help you and your partner to make sure you respect each other’s limits.
  • This consent can be withdrawn at any time and an intimate relationship is not owed to either partner.
  • Stop if the other person seems uncomfortable, uncertain or unable to give their consent.
  • Protect yourself and protect the other person: it is completely normal and necessary to talk to your partner about your health before beginning an intimate relationship.
  • Tools for your safety

Nargisbai tools you can use to take action if you run into any problems.

  • Blocking/unblocking a user Is there a profile you don’t want to see anymore? You can block it. The person won’t be notified, but will no longer be able to send you messages or see your profile. Changed your mind? It is possible to unblock them and start talking to them again.
  • Reporting a user How do you report a user who is violating our Terms of Use? What kind of profiles or behaviour should you report?
